Because diamonds are eternal doesn't mean that they don’t deserve regular care. Christmas and the New Year are classic occasions for women to show off their most beautiful jewellery pieces – but often the stones need serious radiance boost. Taking care of a diamond is an art and numerous women don’t know how to handle the stone, which cleaning products to use (or not use!) and are reluctant to give their stone away to an unknown jeweller they don’t trust. Even though a diamond is unalterable, the stone can loose its shine over time, become dusty or be altered by pollution or other external factors.

Most women have no idea how to keep a sparkling jewellery and most importantly, they don’t know who to trust to give away their precious gems. At the end of the day, some good old tricks are the best and cleaning a diamond yourself is not that complicated. Here we unveil a few secrets on how to be smart about cleaning your diamond – simple and easy tips that are crucial to keep a sparkling jewellery.

Reminder in five action points. Take good note.

1. Use soap and a toothbrush: once every two to three months you can clean the diamond yourself in a few minutes using a soft soap and a toothbrush. The toothbrush allows you to access small and inaccessible spots of the jewellery piece. Rinse it with clean water and dry it with a soft cloth or a damp leather cloth – it works surprisingly well.

2. Check the setting of your piece once a year: over time the setting can loosen up and the stone is likely to move. It is highly recommended to revert to your family/trusted jeweller to make sure the diamond sits firm on the setting to avoid a losing stone. At the same time the jeweller will also clean the diamond and polish the gold or platinum.

3. Careful with your clothes: wool, cashmere, angora, fur and other lint clothes can get trapped into a sharp diamond setting. Put on your jacket, sweater first and then your ring/bracelet/necklace.

4. Don’t use bleach water, abrasives (such as household cleansers or toothpaste) or oily products: although those products won’t alter the diamond these can erode some of the metals often used in diamond settings. Avoid exposing your diamonds to cosmetic or oily products (gel, hairspray, sun cream, etc…).

5. Day-to-day tips: keep your diamond and gemstones in separate jewel boxes to prevent scratching. Take off your jewellery when you undertake heavy tasks such as gardening, house move, construction/renovation works, painting etc…the diamond might accumulate residues and impurities.

Regardless of the size or the price of your diamond, your stone deserves a high luxury attention that mirrors the emotional value of it.
